Although Airbnb is on many boycott lists because it lists properties in illegal West Bank settlements, we view them as a better option than VRBO. In 2019, Airbnb stopped listing settlement properties as part of it's policy to "not contribute to human suffering." Unfortunately, Israel immediately lobbied US political allies, and five state governors responded with legal actions against Airbnb. While this forced Airbnb to discontinue it's human rights policy in Palestine, the company pledged to donate all profits from these listings to charity. We recognize that Airbnb is under the same government pressure that we as individuals face when we legally have to pay taxes that fund war. Additionally, we must consider there are many Palestinians with listings on Airbnb on which they depend for their livelihood. Access to West Bank tourism also helps the outside world witness the Occupation first hand, although we don't agree with listing these West Bank properties as being in “Israel”.
